The Truth About Penile Implants

April 2, 2010 // Posted in Facts

There are many options to reduce the effects of erectile dysfunction, and surgery always seems to be at the back of everyone’s list, but it is still a viable and productive option. There are a couple of different options when choosing a penile implant or prosthesis; those that are inflatable and those that are malleable.

The malleable type of prosthesis consists of two bendable rods so that the penis would only need to be lifted or adjusted into place to initiate sex. This type of implant means that the penis stays semi rigid at all times. The upside to this is obviously that there is no more stress or concern about erection and erectile dysfunction without the need for medications or any other remedies.

The other type of penile prosthesis is inflatable and the male can inflate this erection to occur at any time, or whenever he needs to be aroused. This type of implant is much more easily concealed than its malleable or bendable counterpart. The inflatable option is more natural and fits more seamlessly alongside someone’s life.

These implant options are only really considerable when there is a medical concern for erectile dysfunction. Sometimes prostheses are used after surgery where scarring has occurred and the implant is needed to help correct penile function later in life. When erections curve through scarring in surgery, this is referred to as Peyrione’s disease and is only really correctable through the usage of a prosthesis that can “teach” the erection to straighten out again.
